We live in a world where people find it easy to judge others for one reason or another. Often, they base those judgments on what they see on the surface and not on facts. Some people find it easier to criticize and condemn another than to understand and help lift another. They are quick to point out the faults in others but become blinded to the fact that they have faults of their own.
Just as the cover of a book does not tell us everything we need to know about the book, neither can the outward appearance of a person tell us everything we need to know about that person. Just as we must open the cover of a book and read its contents to learn more of what the book is about, we must take the time to get to know a person to find out more about him or her. The cover of a book can give us some insight about what the book might be about, but it is the actual contents of the book that tell the real story. In the same way, our “covers” or outward appearances may disclose somewhat of who we are, but the thing that reveals who we truly are is the content of our character.
In a new music video, Yahosh Bonner and Brittany Williams deliver a dynamic cover of the song “Powerful” from the television series Empire. The description states that the song “is to inspire people to see their inner power and use it as a force for good. We all have value and should treat each other as such.”
Whether we realize it or not, we live in a very judgmental world. We are all judged in one way or another. People judge us by the way we talk, the way we walk, the way we dress, the way we act or react, the people we associate with, the car we drive, the house we live in, the music we listen to, our level of education, and so forth. Not only are we judged, but whether we are willing to admit it or not, we all tend to be a bit judgmental at times of others for one reason or another.
Just as the song “Powerful” suggests, we are all powerful within ourselves. Each of us is a person of worth. There is not one person on this earth who is any less valuable or any less unique than another. That means that the individual who lives alone in a shack in the lowest of valleys is of no less importance than the person who lives in an extravagant mansion on the hillside with a view of majestic mountains. We should treat each other as being equally unique and valuable. Each of us is entitled to be treated with dignity, respect, and self-worth. No one should ever be left feeling that they are inferior to another.
