This week’s “Video Find of the Week” features two extremely talented and gifted LDS youth, Kenya Clark and Sara Arkell (The Piano Gal). They beautifully and masterfully perform a flawless rendition of “Amazing Grace (My chains are gone).” The location used for the filming of the video and the surrounding scenery help to accentuate the meaning and the message of the song.
The video opens with Kenya singing solo. The scenery switches from a dark to a light setting at the appropriate spots in the song. The darker scenes represent the chains of bondage, and the lighter scenes where we see Kenya singing in an open field represent being set free from those chains. The power of the message and the feeling of being set free is aptly illustrated as we see Kenya walking out of a dark cave as she sings the words, “My chains are gone. I’ve been set free.”
At 1:52 in the video, we see Sara sitting alone in the sand, looking as if she is in awe of God’s amazing grace as Kenya sings, “The Lord has promised good to me. His Word my hope secures.” As Kenya continues, “He will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures,” we see Sarah begin to climb a steep hill representing the challenges that we face in life and the courage and the faith that is needed to endure to the end. At 2:14 in the video, we see Sara fall to her knees in the sand as if she is asking God for the strength to keep pressing forward.
For the remainder of the video, the duo raises their angelic voices as they powerfully sing, “My chains are gone. I’ve been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me.” Towards the end of the video, we see both Kenya and Sara smiling and running through the sand as they continue to sing. In the closing scene, we see one set of footprints in the sand, representing the times in our lives when the Master, because of His unending love and amazing grace carries us.
