On Saturday, 15 September 2018, Micah Harmon of the world-renowned One Voice Children’s Choir released a music video on his YouTube channel which is a mashup of Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” and two LDS missionary songs – “Called to Serve” and “I Hope They Call Me on a Mission.”
Joined by family and friends, including members of the One Voice Children’s Choir, Micah says in the video description that the goal in making the video is “to give everyone a greater desire to fight for what they believe, and to increase love, care, and compassion, throughout the world.” He continues, “No matter what your religious beliefs, or where you stand in your life’s journey, the message of this song still pertains to you. Let us fight for each other. Let us fight for love, peace, and what we believe.”
Throughout the video, we see the storyline of missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to the 2017 Statistical Report for 2018 April General Conference, there are 67,049 full-time missionaries and 36,172 Church-service missionaries worldwide. Mormon missionaries can be seen on the streets of hundreds of major cities around the world as well as in thousands of smaller communities. Their mission is to teach the gospel and to invite people to come unto Christ. They not only teach the gospel through word but also through their humble service to others. As they “embark in the service of God,” they strive to follow the example of Christ in all their doings, serving Him with all their “heart, might, mind and strength, that [they] may stand blameless before God at the last day” (see Doctrine and Covenants 4:2). Their mission is their “Fight Song,” as they strive to teach and live what they believe.
In the description of the video, Micah further comments, “We invite everyone to come unto Christ and serve others with all of their heart. We believe that this is our duty as children of God, and we should fight for what’s right.” In the words of President Russell M. Nelson, we should “Stand up and speak up for truth—especially when it is not popular.”
Micah adds, “We will all be faced with challenges and trials in our life, but no matter the size of the storm, we cannot back down. This life is not easy, but if we are willing to fight through these hard times, we can all achieve our greatest desires.”
