The beautiful inspirational music that Monica Scott produces and shares is both uplifting and edifying. As a person listens to her masterful arrangements, he or she can sense the praise and adoration that Monica has for the Savior. Without saying a single word, or singing a single chord, her powerful testimony is shared with her listening audience through the exquisiteness of the music she plays.

It was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who said, “Music is the universal language of mankind.” During the darkest nights, in times of adversity and distress, music can sooth the aching soul and bring the calm and peace that a person yearns for. During moments of quiet and reflection, music speaks to our souls, and at times brings to remembrance even some of the little things of life that may have long since been forgotten, but for which we should forever be grateful. The scriptures admonish us in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

There are many different types of music. Whether the music that we listen to is vocalized, or presented in a melodious rhapsody using different instruments, we should seek to listen to music that will uplift, edify, and bring joy to our souls. It is through the venue of music that we can express our jubilation, praise, and thanksgiving to Him from whom all blessings flow. Throughout history, music has been used to soothe troubled minds, accompany prophesying, and to express personal sorrow. In the Psalms, David used music to describe personal emotions as well as praise to God.

As Christians, we represent Christ at all times – wherever we go, whatever we say, and whatever we do. The music that we listen to, like any other area of our lives, should honor God. We should focus on what our Heavenly Father has done for us and express praise to Him out of gratefulness.

Monica Scott’s recent video release of her piano arrangement of the LDS Primary song “I Am a Child of God” which was published on her YouTube channel on 15 January 2016, is an excellent expression of the love, faith, and gratitude that she has in her heart for the Savior.

Speaking about the arrangement, Monica posted the following on her Facebook timeline on 15 January 2016:

One evening as I was tucking my kids into bed, I began quietly singing them “I Am a child of God”. As I was singing, the words of this familiar hymn had a different meaning to me. I began thinking of these children that were sent to me from a loving Heavenly Father. And although I have the privilege of being their earthly mother, they are His children and he has a specific plan for them. I began thinking of the words “Lead me, guide me, walk beside me” and thinking of all that I yearned and hoped to teach my kids. Even though on a daily basis it is so hard, and I fall short many times, I hope and pray that I can do my best. I know that Heavenly Father loves all of His children and has a plan for everyone.

Monica Scott is a stay-at-home mom who is kept busy from sunrise to sunset lovingly caring for her four children who range in ages from 4-years-old to 9-years-old. She has commented, “It is my hope and prayer that my music can touch someone and bring peace into their lives through these sacred hymns.”
