Brooklyn and Bailey
Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight are 17-year-old (31 December 1999), Texas-based identical twin sisters who run the YouTube channel “Brooklyn and Bailey,” which is “devoted [to] all things fun,” including family vlogs, crafting, fashion and beauty, and music videos. They release a new video every Wednesday afternoon. Their YouTube channel has garnered more than 4.2 million subscribers and their videos have been viewed over 580 million times. They also have a YouTube channel called “Squared” which features many other twins.
Brooklyn and Bailey are American social media entertainers and singers. Their family consists of their mother, Mindy McKnight, their father, Shaun McKnight, two biological sisters named Kamri Noel and Rylan Olivia, an adopted brother named Daxton Shaun, and an adopted sister named Paisley Imanni. According to SoundCloud, “In addition to their addictive lifestyle content, the McKnight Family is praised by press and fans for being a transracial family with the adoption of Paisley and Daxton.”
Their mother started making creative hair styles for them when they were just 18 months old. The girls originally surfaced on YouTube as models for their mother’s DIY channel “Cute Girls Hairstyles,” a video series of hair design tutorials. In October 2008, their mother decided to record the hairstyles in a blog format.
In March 2013, the twins launched a vlog channel with a focus on family-friendly lifestyle and teen interests. In August 2015, the twins collaborated with Peter Hollens for a cover of Lennon and Maisy’s “A Life That’s Good.” Also in 2015, they also collaborated on a parody with Studio C called “The Other Parent Trap.” In early 2017, the pair announced their entrance into the music industry. They partnered with Benny Cassette, a music producer attached to Kanye West’s Very GOOD label with a portfolio that includes The Band Perry, Miguel, John Legend, and Lily Allen, to create a series of upbeat, uplifting songs that offer listeners a positive message. Their first track, “Dance Like Me,” debuted on Friday 3 March 2017. The track charted at #26 for the most popular song and #12 for pop US song on iTunes. On 28 April 2017, Brooklyn and Bailey released their second single, “Simple Things.” There are more songs and music videos in the works which Brooklyn and Bailey will release during summer 2017.
SoundCloud declares, “Brooklyn and Bailey McKnight are stand-out artists and positive teen role models with a massive digital footprint that reaches over 5M followers daily.” The twins have several accolades to their credit including being listed by Business Insider as one of “13 up-and-coming YouTube stars you should be following” and their YouTube channel was nominated for a Streamy Award. They also hosted/presented the awards at an event just recently in 2017. And, they continue to be sought after by major brands seeking an authentic voice and family appeal, including Disney, CoverGirl, Clinique, JCPenny’s, Hollister and more.
Brooklyn and Bailey plan to follow in their parents’ footsteps and continue their education by attending college after graduating high school. Brooklyn told People, “Our parents told us from the very beginning that school is our number one job, then family, then YouTube.” Bailey added, “We plan on continuing YouTube either at school together or at separate universities. It may even be that we do online course work for a while to allow for our travel schedule.” Bailey wants a career in Marketing with a Minor in Broadcast Journalism, while Brooklyn wants to study business or possibly become a child psychiatrist.
