On Sunday evening, 10 October 2021, world renowned entertainer, Donny Osmond, competed for charity on a celebrity edition of Wheel of Fortune, alongside comedian Jeff Garlin and actress/singer Amber Riley.
Donny banked on calling out commonly used letters for solving the puzzles like “R’ and “T,” only to hear host Pat Sajak say, “I’m sorry.” He even came close to solving the big puzzle for $20,000. However, when he decided to guess the puzzle and read it out loud, he said, “the brain of the operation,” instead of “the brains of the operation” — leaving off the “s” in “brains.”
Sajak commented, “Donny, we’ve been on the air for many, many years. One of the most ironic mis-solves we’ve ever had here.”
Nevertheless, after the hourlong episode, Donny did not leave completely emptyhanded. Over two games, he solved three puzzles and earned $12,000 for his charity of choice: Caesars Cares. To that $12,000, Wheel of Fortune added another $18,000, bringing Donny’s grand total to $30,000. Garlin won $30,000 for his charity, and Riley walked away with $243,600 for her charity.
Donny Talked about His New Las Vegas Show and His Sister Marie
At the start of the episode, Donny talked about his new residency at Harrah’s on the Las Vegas Strip. After performing on stage with his sister, Marie Osmond, for an 11-year run at the Flamingo, Donny is flying solo this time around.
According to the Deseret News, Donny’s new show includes a lengthy rap that explores six decades in music. The music in the show also includes classics like “Puppy Love” and “One Bad Apple” on which special guest, Carson Ferris, from Donny’s hometown of Utah, sang the high notes for Donny. You can learn more about Carson Farris by following him on Facebook and YouTube. Donny also includes songs from his new album like the titular song, “Start Again.”
Donny said, “I’ve got my own show — probably the biggest I’ve ever produced.” In a recent interview with the Deseret News, he commented that his sister Marie wanted to continue their show for another year, but he had already been talking to a producer about doing a solo show and felt like it was time for a new chapter.
So, what is Marie Osmond doing now? In a recent interview with the Deseret News, Marie revealed that she is preparing to release a new album called Unexpected, and she is also gearing up for a Christmas tour. She said, “I don’t mind closing doors and opening new ones. As a young girl, I got shut down a little bit by change — I hated it. … So, I just decided I wanted to embrace it. If anybody’s going to cause change, it’s me. When I’m done with something, I have no problems closing that door.”
Marie continued, “I’m kind of at a really nice place of peace in my life. That doesn’t mean I’m content and I’m done. But I’m also not the kind of person that feels like I’ve got to be out there. I only want to be out there if I feel like there’s something new or fresh, or something that I can give back.”
