James Valentine is the lead guitarist for Maroon 5. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1978, James now lives in California, while his family has transplanted to Utah, where his mom teaches at BYU and his father teaches at UVU. James claims to be happy not to enjoy the fame of Adam Levine, with its attendant fan frenzies. He openly discusses the struggles involved in leading a rock band lifestyle having been raised Mormon. He was president of his high school student council and an Eagle Scout.

James also plays with the band Jjamz, a resort for various members of famous bands who want to relax and play on the side. James is also a good friend of John Mayer and has played the guitar on Mayer’s albums.
