Liriel Domiciano
Liriel Domiciano is a Brazilian pop star and classical singer. She was born in São Paulo. Liriel’s family, although recognizing her talent, could not afford singing lessons for her. Still, she began practicing classical arias at age 5. Along with Rinaldo Viana, she won the Raul Gil Amateur Show, the equivalent of the United States’ American Idol. Their first CD, Romance, became the second-highest classical bestseller in Brazilian history. Two CDs released later also became bestsellers.
Around the age of 14, she began singing with an LDS group called “Voices of Zion.” Liriel also converted to Mormonism at age 14. At age 19, she was applying for a job as a seamstress at a bridal fair, but auditioned instead to be a wedding singer, choosing a Puccini aria for her material. Within a short time, she was on television. She decided not to sign with Brazil’s biggest talent agency because she has made a commitment to sing for the Church. On April 4, 2004, Liriel became the first soloist to sing at General Conference since 1932. She was invited to sing in General Conference by church president Gordon B. Hinckley, who had heard her sing when he presided at the rededication of the Sao Paulo Brazil Temple.
Her CD “Heaven’s Eyes,” appeared in 2006. She was featured on “Believe in Love: Songs of Hope” and “Inspiration,” a 2007 collection of artists by Jerry Williams and produced by Deseret Book.
