Paul Layton Cardall is an American pianist known for his original compositions and arrangements of various hymns. His awe-inspiring music is frequently categorized as New Age, Classical, and Religious.
His soothing, melodic style is born out of his compassion to help others endure hardship and connect to the strength of the soul – something that he is all too familiar with on a personal level. He had faced and survived many difficult challenges, having been born with virtually half a functioning heart, which required immediate surgery when he was less than a day old. His life-threatening congenital heart disease resulting in a series of delicate surgeries throughout his life, including a heart transplant, has given him wisdom, depth, and understanding that only music could express to heal hearts and minds of people the world over. He once commented, “I’ve been blessed my whole life to have this heart defect. I am far from perfect and needed this in my life to teach me things I could have never learned without it.”
Paul is an excellent example of a person who does not allow the physical challenges in life to hinder him from achieving great success. He writes and performs music and has played the piano since he was a young boy of 8. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was recruited by Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) where he acted as the Fine Arts President and Public Relations Vice-President. He is also a successful owner of an independent record label, Stone Angel Music, which distributes his music to various locations around the globe, such as Singapore, South Korea, and Spain. Stone Angel Music also produced Jason Lyle Black’s (professionally known as The Backwards Piano Man ®) magnificent album Piano Preludes released on 6 May 2016.
Paul’s latest contribution to the music world is an album titled A New Creation which will be released on 16 September 2016. The album features world-renowned tenor Nathan Pacheco on the song “Gethsemane” and international Broadway star Patrice Tipoki on the song “Son of God.” The album is perhaps one of Paul’s greatest musical accomplishments thus far as he masterfully uses his music to answer the question, “What would it be like to create a soundtrack to the Word of God?” Paul comments that the heart of the album is the song “One By One” which is the ninth track. Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wrote the words.
Paul is as excited to release A New Creation as people are anxious to get a copy and listen to it many times over. The album is currently available for pre-order on iTunes and will be available at Deseret Bookstores.
