Kirby Heyborne

kirby-09_highres-3As a performer, mormon Kirby Heyborne is one of the most recognizable talents among his LDS fans. However, his fanbase extends far beyond the boundaries of the LDS world.  Kirby acts, sings, plays the guitar, reads audiobooks, and does so with an exceptional love for his art.  He is the real deal.

He learned to play the guitar as a teenager, when he and his friends gathered to learn the Beatles’ classics.  He closely followed local bands in his native Utah, and even began writing his own songs in the ninth grade.

Kirby played in some shows, and made a few albums in his teenage years.  When he returned from his mormon mission in 1997, he and his friend, Marc Thorup reinvented their band and named it “Bentleigh”.  They added a few more band members, and gained a great following.  Bentleigh soon achieved gigs around the west, such as the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, when they opened for N’Sync.  He and Marc opened for Peter Breinholt and Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband.

Kirby’s acting took him away from his music for a time, and the band went their separate ways.  His ability in comedy has taken him around the country, in comedy troupes, stand-up, in commercials and in film.  He is in The Singles’ Wardmovies, The R.M., Sons of Provo, and Baptists at Our Barbeque.  He has the rare ability to perform comedic improv without a hitch, leaving audiences wanting more.  Kirby is in The Society, an improv comedy troupe.

Though Kirby is one of the funniest actors around, his music is no joke.  Kirby’s experience and his intense creativity mesh together to formulate the Elliot Smith-esque tracks he produces, such as “Mistakes and Stowaways” from his new album, The Elm Tree, produced by Nathan DeVore.

Kirby is a devoted father and husband, and is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
