No one ever promised us that life would be a rose garden. No one ever promised us that the road that we would travel would be smooth as glass. Life is full of many lofty mountains and many low and desolate valleys. There may be a “Goliath” which crosses our path from time to time, but we will never do anything in this life if we continually quit every time we come face to face with a “giant” who is blocking our way and daring us to go any further. We must learn to always carry a proverbial slingshot and a few smooth stones in our backpacks, and take courage like the little shepherd boy David, and face the “Goliath” in our lives head on with the determination that we will defeat him, and not allow him to defeat us. And so, we must continue to march on to the tune of our “Fight Song” with our banners held high.
This week’s “Video Find of the Week” features the multitalented Piano Guys in their brilliant rendition of Rachael Platten’s Scottish cover of “This is Your Fight Song.” The Piano Guys explain why they chose this particular song for a video in the description:
When we first heard Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” we were inspired by its message. In a world where we too often talk about our differences, we have at least one thing in common. We all struggle. Not in the same way, nor at the same level, but we all want a fighting chance. And we all share in one gift: The will to make the most of our lives. To take what we’ve been given and turn it into something better could be considered the sentient measuring stick of success. But to do so seldom is simple and more often requires we fight. Not against each other. But against the current threatening to drown the ambition in us.
This song and video for us was a struggle, but a beautifully defining one. We chose the Scottish culture to depict the dichotomy between Grace and struggle. Who else is tough enough and yet delicate enough to don a kilt in battle? And the Scottish pipe and drum are the ultimate conveyors of melody and cadence. One represents Grace, the other the indomitable fight. Our dream was to film one of the most iconic castles on the Earth, Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie, Scotland.
The Piano Guys have gained momentum through countless media avenues including The Today Show, The Tonight Show, Katie Couric, and Fox News. Through various social media venues such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest, they have garnered a large worldwide fan base. Their YouTube channel alone has amassed over 4 million subscribers and over 830 million views since 25 March 2008 when they joined YouTube.
Speaking about the video “This is Your Fight Song,” they have further remarked, “We recognize that this video is far less important than a fight for one’s life. We hope this music will serve as an anthem for those that are in the fight of their lives.”
