GENTRI recently released a cover of “Bless the Broken Road” and it’s more than just “good.”

Tugs at your heartstrings, doesn’t it?

If you’re familiar with the Rascal Flatts version, you’ve probably loved this song since it hit the No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Singles & Tracks Chart in 2004 and stayed there for five consecutive weeks. We’ve been listening to this song on the radio for a long, long time.

But did you know it was written even further back than that?

Bobby Boyd, Jeff Hanna and Marcus Hummon actually co-wrote “Bless the Broken Road” in 1994. The first band to perform it was the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band of which Hanna and Hummon were a part of. The two attribute the inspiration for the song to Bobby Boyd who, as a fellow songwriter, had a great chat on music with Hummon. And thanks to those two conversations—Bobby with Marcus then Marcus with Jeff—we get to enjoy this forever heart-warming, optimistic song. “Bless the Broken Road”  won a Grammy in 2006.

GENTRI is comprised of three highly trained tenors: Brad Robins, Casey Elliott, and Bradley Quinn Lever. The three Gents met in the Spring 2014 production of Les Misérables at the Hale Center Theater. After an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences, Elliot’s wife had the idea for the three men to join forces. Donning sports coats and pocket squares, the men decided to “bring gentlemen back,” as well as focusing on uplifting and encouraging others. According to their official website, their signature sound of “Cinematic Pop” is “a fusion of lush, epic orchestrations coupled with rich, dynamic three part harmonies.”
