Amy Van Wagenen, Mormon music artist, has not always been a professional musician. When she was a little girl, she was asked to sing on a Primary album. Then, when 14 years old, she dreamed about a music career, but it seemed out of reach.
She just came on the music scene, armed with some life experience, a supportive husband, and song-writing talent. Amy listens to the Spirit as she writes, and tries to convey the feelings and impressions she gains in those quiet moments.
Dean Kaelin, vocal coach (and musical genius!…can we say, “David Archuleta’s vocal coach”???), loved Amy’s style and took her under his wing. Now that he’s equiped her with the wings to fly, she is stretching those wings and has soared into the LDS music world. She wrote pretty much all of her songs on her new album “Waiting”, with the exception of a cover of James Taylor’s “Shower The People”. Her simple, secure, and genuine sound brings a fresh and contemporary vibe to her fans.
Amy remains grounded and sees her family as the most important part of life. “Everything else is just fluff”, she has said. She and her husband have 4 children.
