Parker Edwards (ARLOE)
Parker Edwards, perhaps best known by his professional name, ARLOE, is an American electronic musician, record producer, and soulful Utah dance artist. He is from Highland, Utah, and currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Parker was born in Manhattan, New York, but grew up in Utah, far from the cultural hubs of the United States. He began producing music at the young age of 12, and over the years he has developed a knack for sophisticated melodies, coupled with primitive and addicting rhythms. He attended Lone Peak High School in American Fork, Utah, graduating in 2010.
According to his Facebook bio, he was “first exposed to French house luminaries Daft Punk and Sebastian as well as irreverent experimental electronic acts such as Bloody Beetroots and Crookers through early music-blogs.” Over time, he has managed to use that out-of-the-box mentality to create a fresh, modern body of work. His bio further states:
ARLOE is here to make a ruckus. In what tends to be a soul-less dance music landscape, ARLOE brings addictive rhythms and a passionate voice to the DJ booth. He lives to make his fans sweat and dance. And as a writer, producer, and singer, he commands his own genre.
ARLOE’s debut EP titled “STRIKE GOLD” was released on Friday, 18 March 2016 by his label, Voyagers. Six months in the making, “STRIKE GOLD” is a culmination of years of songwriting and production. Parker developed the record in the basement of his parents’ home in Provo, Utah, and is now ready to introduce it to the world. He began touring and introducing the EP in late 2015 and plans to continue touring into fall 2016.
The EP is described as an emotional and diverse take on the dance genre. ARLOE masterfully takes the 5 songs on the EP and “bends irreverent Prog House, R&B, and club smashes into a cohesive piece of musical art.” From tracks like “Howl at the Moon,” a dancefloor juggernaut featuring powerhouse vocalist, Jenn Blosil, to “The Gully,” a summer love story with a dark side, ARLOE has shown he can command a song as well as he can command a dance floor.
About the EP, Parker has remarked:
The EP deals with themes that have been important to me; love, love lost, independence, feeling lost and getting found, the effect of social media on humans, etc. It’s the record my soul has been wanting to write for years, and finally it’s come to light. I’m happy it’s called Strike Gold. I’ve found that with music, ideas, and people, there is an outer layer that everyone sees, but dig a little deeper, develop the idea a little further, get to know someone or yourself on a deeper level, and you always strike a gold nugget.
