Tanner Howe, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a 24-year-old (20 April 1993) singer/songwriter from Huntington Beach, California. His original and cover songs are available on iTunes, and he also has an album that he made with his sister, Taylor, called Come What May. He Has over 10,000 subscribers on YouTube and is currently working on his first EP called Record Head.
Tanner was born and raised in the Church buts says that he did not gain a personal testimony until he was 17. He recalls that before he turned 17 he had some spiritual experiences, but there was a lot going on in his life and he felt that he was not anywhere close to where he wanted to be. Attending a brand-new school when he started high school, he felt out of place. His parents had also recently divorced at that time, and he admits that even at Church he felt very much alone. The thing that helped him turn things around was making friends in his ward. He says, “This is where I met some of my greatest friends and people that are still my good friends today. It was then when I started to really want to go to church instead of it being such a negative thing that I was forced to do.”
Still, he struggled with deciding whether to serve a mission. He had hopes and aspirations of becoming a professional musician. He felt that leaving for two years to serve a mission would affect that dream. He eventually realized that his reasoning was selfish, decided to serve a full-time mission for the Church, and as a result, regained a full testimony of the Church.
Tanner is a graduate of Huntington Beach High School and studied at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, California. He served a two-year full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Torreon, Mexico. Per his Mormon.org profile, Tanner says, “I have a love for so many different things like film, art, and sports. But my biggest passion is in music! I have been singing ever since I can remember and I have learned to play the guitar and the piano. I love creating and conveying emotion and telling stories through music and I plan to make it my career.”
