The Mormon Choir of Washington DC
The Mormon Choir of Washington DC with a current membership of 80 from approximately 50 Latter-day Saint congregations in the Maryland and Virginia regions, was founded in 1980. The choir is comprised of singers and musicians who are selected by audition. The leadership of the choir includes: Jim Taylor (Choir President), Gary B. Clawson (Principal Music Director), David J. Hardin (Associate Director), Melinda Semadeni (Program Narrator), and Linda Pain (Accompanist).
The Choir’s repertoire includes a wide variety of secular and sacred music including major choral works of noted composers, show tunes, Americana and patriotic compositions, and sacred hymns. They have performed at numerous locations across the nation to include such places as Annapolis Maryland State House, Constitution Hall, Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York, Kennedy Center, Washington Cathedral, Navy Memorial, Strathmore, Washington Hebrew Congregation, White House, and the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, D.C. They have also performed for the Interfaith Conference Annual Concerts, and have performed in the past with the McLean Orchestra and Symphony, as well as, the U.S. Army Band.
The choir has several recordings to its credit, with “It Is Well with My Soul” being released in 2010. The remainder of 2015 seems rewarding for the Choir as they prepare to perform at the Washington DC Area Interfaith Program on 19 November, and the Christmas program at the Washington DC LDS Temple Visitor Center at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on 2 December. There are also tentative plans to perform at the Christmas program in Frederick, Maryland on 13 December 2015.
