Evie Clair
Evelyn Clair Abplanalp (her stage name is Evie Clair) is a singer, songwriter, arranger, and musician from Florence, Arizona. She was a contestant on Season 12 of America’s Got Talent, finishing in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10. She is 14 years old and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is the daughter of Hillary and Amos Abplanalp and has four siblings, three sisters and a brother. On 7 September 2017, Evie’s father, Amos Abplanalp, passed away due to Stage IV cancer – a week before the finals of America’s Got Talent. She found the courage to continue with the competition saying, “My dad taught me after I started something to always finish it. That’s why I’m fighting to the end, just like he did.”
Evie began developing her piano playing and vocal skills at the young age of two. Since then, she has gained recognition by winning several talent competitions that have helped open new doors of opportunity and increase her fan base.
By age eight, she was playing the part of Molly in the musical, Anne, at the Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert, Arizona. She has also performed the National Anthem at a Diamondbacks game, won in her category at the 2014 Arizona’s Rockin’ with Talent, and received one of three Judges Choice Awards in a world-wide contest for her cover of “Glorious.”
Evie recorded as a soloist on an album produced by Arizona Golden Rule Educational Experiences called Stars Shine Brightly. Her music video cover of A-ha’s “Take on Me,” was awarded by Arizona Interfaith Movement for promoting the Golden Rule and presented at the Parliament of the World’s Religions. She also recorded with Rob Gardner for the soundtrack of Cokeville Miracle and enjoyed opening for the world-famous Duttons and working with classmates to create a music video promoting kindness and forgiveness.
Evie won a singing contest to solo on the soundtrack for Once I Was a Beehive where she performs the song “Together.” You can watch her audition video here. She had the opportunity to perform the song live for the official movie premiere. Maclain Nelson, writer and director of Once I Was a Beehive, commented, “We just couldn’t believe what we were hearing. This amazing voice coming out of this 12-year-old girl, it was mind-blowing.” Evie also has an original song called “For You” that is also featured on the movie soundtrack.
In 2015 and 2016 Evie Clair was invited to participate in the world wide Mormon.org special Christmas initiatives and released her pop single “Love You One More Time” on iTunes, Amazon, Pandora, Spotify, and other online music outlets. Accompanied by Sara Arkell (known on YouTube as The Piano Gal), Evie also sang a 2016 LDS Mutual Theme song called “Press Forward with a Steadfastness in Christ,” an original song written by her mother, Hillary Abplanalp with help by Sister missionaries, Isalina Michaud and Sarah Olson.
Evie joined YouTube, where she publishes her music videos, on 15 May 2014, and as of early June 2018, she has amassed 82,940 subscribers and 9.7 million views. Since America’s Got Talent, Evie has performed for a variety of events across the country and has earned enough to fund and independently release her own original pop album (that really contains a variety of styles besides pop) titled Okay Day. The album was released on Thursday, 31 May 2018, and is available for purchase and download on iTunes, and for streaming on Apple Music and Spotify. Evie plans to tour with her new album in 2019.
At such a young age, Evie is a very gifted young person with aspirations of succeeding in the music business. She has said, “What an honor. I can’t take much credit for this voice I’ve been blessed with, but I’ll be so happy if I have some part to play in helping hearts heal and feel through this gift.”
