Eric Thayne
Eric Thayne was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona where he spent most of his childhood. He is a graphic designer, music producer, and film maker. He has lived in several different locales to include Johannesburg, South Africa; Dubuque, Iowa; Ogden, Utah, and currently lives in Provo, Utah where he attended Brigham Young University (BYU) and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts with a Graphic Design emphasis.
He spends a lot of his free time producing music videos for his YouTube channel, Eric Thayne Music, which he started in March 2012. To create his music videos he works with talented artists and performers such as David Osmond, Ashley Hess, and James Curran (James the Mormon). When asked by Deseret News in a 10 August 2015 interview, “What do you enjoy most about being a YouTuber?” he responded, “Being able to do what I love. It’s an outlet for my music and creative side. It gives me an audience to share that with.” Deseret News also asked, “What one tip would you give aspiring YouTubers?” Eric said, “Work hard, and make lots of good content.” He joined YouTube on 16 January 2012 and to date he has amassed 18,866 subscribers and 2,146,598 viewers. His videos have been featured by Mashable, Gizmodo, Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, RyanSeacrest.com, Huffington Post, 9GAG, Daily Dot, and more.
Eric is definitely not the type of person who sits idle watching the grass grow under his feet. On his official website, he comments, “I like to muse about life, music, social media, technology, and everything in between.” He further states:
I love all things creative, including design, music, film, entrepreneurship, marketing, dance, and writing. I’ve been creating things ever since I could hold a pencil. I started my own freelance graphic design business when I was 13. I’ve played the piano for 16 years, guitar and drums for 10. I’ve been writing music for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always loved film making.
His busy life schedule is a delicate mixture of working as a freelance graphic designer and film maker, maintaining his YouTube channel, and being the owner and creative director of a new recording studio called Celadora which he started in July 2013. The description on the Celadora website reads:
We are empowering brands and musicians all over the world with the tools they need to make incredible content, and get it seen by millions. In a world saturated with hundreds of hours of video uploaded every minute screaming for fans’ attention, we make videos that get seen.
From June 2014 until January 2015, Eric was the co-founder and filmmaker for Catchlight, a New York based, full-service graphic and design firm, specializing in retouching, post production, photo illustration, and manipulation.
Eric is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He says, “It’s a way of life for me, it gives me direction, and I know it’s true.” He served a full-time two-year mission for the Church from 2009-2011 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
